VACANCY: The number of Edward Hopper paintings posted on this blog is adding up slowly. It’s funny how I end up stumbling over one of his works whenever I’m not looking for it, and it’s even more of a coincidence of how the pictures reflect my mood to a certain degree. Although ‘Empty Room’ is sombre in mood, it is not without hope, which is shown by the square of sunlight that stands out against the muted yellow colour of the walls. I am not that happy with life and in particular progress in my job at the moment, but I feel like life isn’t really worth living if you are not going to be optimistic about what is to come tomorrow. So yeah that’s where my personal thoughts connect to Hopper’s ‘subject-less’ 1963 piece.
